5POP:Adopt-A-Drain a Huge Success!

THIS WEEK KIDS AT OUR SCHOOL SIGNED UP TO ADOPT-A-DRAIN. THERE ARE OVER 25 STORM DRAINS ON CAMPUS AND THEY ALL RUN TO OUR LOCAL CREEKS. IF WE CAN MAKE SURE NO LITTER GOES DOWN OUR STORM DRAINS WE CAN CUT DOWN ON THE AMOUNT OF LITTER GOING INTO THE BAY, WHICH EVENTUALLY GOES OUT TO SEA AND ENDS UP IN THAT GARBAGE PATCH. EVERY PIECE OF PLASTIC WE PICK UP REDUCES THE NUMBER OF DEAD ANIMALS FROM OUR WASTEFUL HABITS. COMMIT TO PICKING UP 5 PIECES OF PLASTIC EVERY DAY TO HELP SAVE OUR OCEANS!

INVITATION TO BROWSE THE PAGES IN OUR NEW WEBSITE: CHECK OUT OUR PAGE ON THE 5POP SEAL OF APPROVAL! WE ARE LOOKING FOR WAYS TO ELIMINATE PLASTIC FROM OUR EVERYDAY LIVES. OUR FIRST AWARD GOES TO THESE AMAZING KITCHEN SCRUBBERS MADE OUT OF NATURAL MATERIALS.

5POP: YOU NEED TO BE PATIENT TO GET KNOWN!!!!

Right now we are focusing on raising money so that we are able to make 5POP starter kits for other schools. These will have information about 5POP and hopefully they will join the 5POP army!!!!! Things are kind of slowing down ,but not in a bad way. Right now we have to wait to be able to get known in other schools and cities. When you are patient then you will be able to do many things in life. If we told other schools right away about 5POP they would probably think nothing of it because we had not done anything yet that would let them get involved. Now we have this website and a facebook page. Hopefully we will be able to raise enough money to get other schools involved!!!

5POP: Adopt-a-Drain!

We are soon going to have kids at our school adopt-a-drain which means they will have to take care of that drain and if there is garbage in the drain then they will need to clean it up. This should be a start to making sure that no plastic goes in the drain because if it does then it goes into a creek which then leads to the bay and finally to the ocean..

5POP: Interviews

Today at school we interviewed first graders about 5pop. One girl named Laura said she knows now to pick up garbage. A kid named Zoe said that they were sad because the picture of the bird with the plastic in its stomach was dead. Asher said that he and his friends found a box and collected garbage and recycles around the school and put it in the box. Bianca said that she didn’t get a card yet so she hasn’t signed it. Joey is planning to tell his parents about 5pop. Last kid was Collin, we asked if he could talk to an animal what would you tell them about 5pop and he said “5pop will save your lives.”

5POP: 7th Graders Get Distracted!

It was the Good Morning, America program on the “Great Pacific Garbage Patch” that inspired us to action. Watch it and see how you feel about it. The problem is: we  are spending too much time worrying about ourselves more than the enviroment!

Our solution is cleaning up our enviroment everyday and making a difference!

On Day 1 we collected over six buckets of garbage and recyclables on our campus. However, clean up on campus today was somewhat of a disaster. We were not as successful picking up plastic, because some people in our class started to mess around which ticked off the teachers. This is a lesson to everyone. We should not mess around because we are wasting time that is valuable to our earth. The animals are depending on us!

Join the 5POP army!!!

5POP: Beach Pollution Goes Out to Sea… : (

This is what all of our beaches are going to look like in the future if we don’t change our habits of throwing our garbage and plastic away on the ground. A good way of helping this not happen to all of our beaches is go to the beach and pick up trash. It’s fun, especially if you go with your friends—and it really helps our environment. Think of it this way—every piece of plastic that you pick up will save one animal at a time!

5POP: Day 1

Day 1 started out, with Mrs. Minor giving our class a lecture about how she is so upset with the way  people are treating Mother Nature. People just realized how its affecting us humans and our environment, but it’s not only about humans its about the animals that are getting punished for our actions.
What we did as a class to help the earth is pick up as much plastic garbage as we could that was around our campus. It may seem like a small contribution to our world, but every little bit counts, because if  everybody picks up five or more pieces of plastic garbage everyday—it will make a huge difference to the environment and the animals. So come on and join us on this journey to save the world, Five Pieces of Plastic (5POP) at a time!Sincerely,
The 5POP ARMY
